Event Conflicts and Conflict Blocks

What are Event Conflicts?
Due to the nature of tournament schedules, some events must run at the same time as others.  This creates a conflict in these events such that a student is not able to compete in more than one of these events at the same time.

What are Conflict Blocks?
Conflict blocks identify events that conflict with each other at the regional, state, and national levels.  For planning purposes, do not have students prepare for more than one event from each conflict block.

REASONS we went to "Conflict Blocks":
  • Allows us to mirror Nationals
  • Easy to announce EARLY in the season
  • Easier to create a schedule that allows use of same Event Supervisors for B and C
  • Flexibility for each competition without unfair advantage or disadvantage

What Blocks are NOT meant to do:
  • Blocks are NOT WHEN in the day events run
  • Blocks are just to provide a framework for student event preparation
  • Self schedule events will NOT run all day at Regionals. This means there is a potential conflict for students who prepare for/compete in MANY events.
