Meet the Oakton Regional Directors:

Elizabeth Ramseyer-
Elizabeth has been teaching physics and astronomy at Niles West High School for 29 years.  In 1993 she was asked to start a Science Olympiad Team at Niles West and as a result has been its longest serving coach.  (Currently an assistant coach after being its head coach for 21 years. ) Under her tenure, The Niles West Science Olympiad team earned the right to compete at Nationals twice.  In 1999, Niles West High School's team placed 8th in the Nation.  Elizabeth is very passionate about the Science Olympiad experience, having acted as Regional Director (9 times ) and Invitational Director.  She also writes the Astronomy Event each year for regionals.  

Sara Tsioles-
Sara has been teaching 8th grade science at Old Orchard Junior High for 13 years, she also taught in Hampton,  Virginia for 2 years before she came to Skokie.  She has enjoyed going to State and showing the kids around her Alma Mater, the University of Illinois where she majored in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish.  She also coaches Cheerleading and 6th Grade Volleyball.  In her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband, two girls and two corgis.  Her favorite event to help with at University of Illinois is Write It, Do It.

  • Coaches' Meeting  January 29th 7-9 PM at Oakton - Zoom link will also be provided. 
  • The Coaches' Meeting is scheduled in January 29th. Everyone should park in Lot D and enter the Lee Center (directly south of Parking Lot D). Map of Oakton  PLEASE NOTE and ZOOM meeting (online) may be an option.  Please watch for details of this possible option to our meeting.

Forms due BEFORE the Tournament:
  • Self Schedule - Sunday, February 9th @ 7 PM - Wednesday, February 19th @ 10 PM
  • Demographics  - Must be completed by midnight on Wednesday Feb 26, 2020. 
  • Lunch Order form - Due Friday February 21, 2020 (This is for coaches and event supervisors )

Forms due AT TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION:

Final Roster:  (One for each team) Please complete one roster for each team (V and JV) and have your principal sign the form(s).

Team Registration Process
TEAM ROSTERS/FORMS - Can submit electronically to sara.tsioles@illinoisolympiad.org - please put forms in the same order as your registration sheet and scan. 
All team members must have a medical release, media release permission form, and coaches must provide a roster for each team competing. A Principal's signature is required at the bottom of each roster submitted.​ Please alphabetize your forms and divide them into 2 separate piles-one for Medical Release Forms and one for Media Release Forms. We will be checking these against your team roster(s).

​​WRISTBANDS
As you check in, our volunteers will count out the designated amount of wristbands for your team. Please do not leave the check in table until you do this. Students without wristbands will not be admitted to their events. Please read the Wristband directives that you will find in your registration packet at check-in.

Homeroom numbers will be listed on your registration packet. Please do not switch homerooms as we will need to know where everyone is should any issues arise throughout the day.

Scoring 1506 - Coaches, Directors, and Event Supervisors only please.

Hospitality 1502 - Coaches and Event Supervisors are welcome to join us for hospitality throughout the day.

Concessions/Food for Students/Volunteers
Available for purchase in the Oakton Cafeteria for students & parents.  The cafeteria will be open from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Policies

Oakton Community College is an open and unsecured campus.  Anyone can come and go on campus.  Coaches need to keep an eye on their students.  Students should NOT go wandering off by themselves.

Personal Belongings
Please ask students to leave all personal belongings in the homeroom. Students who bring personal belongings to an event will be asked to place all belongings at the front (or back) of the event room.

NOTE ON CELLPHONES: Cellphones MUST be turned off and put inside a personal belonging that is left at the front (or back) of the room. Phones may NOT be kept on a student during an event. Students found with cellphones may be asked to leave the event.
