There are three lots on the North Shore Country Day School campus. There are no other events scheduled on campus, however there will be traffic throughout the day for those attending music lessons at the Music Institute. They are designated as:
Main Lot (off of Green Bay Road, south of Willow Road)
Upper School lot (entrance off of Elder Lane, on the south-east corner near the intersection of Elder Lane and Ridge Road)
Middle School lot (entrance off of Elder Lane, on the south-west corner near the intersection of Elder Lane and Forest Avenue)
North Shore Coaches and Volunteers - Please reserve the Middle School lot for use by the North Shore coaches and parent volunteers who will be helping throughout the Invitational
Teams travelling by car or van - Please utilize the Upper School lot. If that lot fills up, please use the Main Lot. However when using the Main Lot, be mindful of the bus traffic that we are directing their. Last year, a bus was unable to make it around due to the congestion. We are trying to make sure that busses can utilize the driveway for loading and unloading.
Teams travelling by bus - We are asking that those teams travelling by bus to have your bus use the Main Lot and drop you off at the top of the driveway. Once unloaded, your bus can exit the driveway so that others can unload. If your bus is staying for the day, we are asking your driver to park elsewhere for the day and to come back to load the students at the end of the awards ceremony. We have made arrangements for your busses to park at Marie Murphy School. Here are directions to Marie Murphy.
Registration
Unlike the Regional or State tournaments, you will not need to turn in rosters of students for the different teams. This way, you can shuffle students in different pairings for this experience. This is why teams are designated as team A and B, rather than Varsity and JV. The purpose of the invitational has always been to be able to:
Allow multiple students to participate (this was a major part of the mission before the inclusion of Varsity/JV at Regionals)
To have students learn from coaches with slightly different perspectives
To provide students to get feedback from other coaches to help them better themselves
To allow coaches to practice running an event
You will not need to turn in permission slips, health forms, etc. to us for the Invitational, but you are bound by the guidelines and rules that your school or district has for field trip. Common sense suggests you should the appropriate permission slips and medical forms them for yourselves in case there is a problem.
Registration will occur the the Lower Gallery of our Art Building. you will need to turn in copies of the Invitaional Media Release and Permission form to the volunteers. At this time, you will be able to purchase the wristbands for lunch.

Most items will cost a dollar. Stands will be set up in the Gallery (by the Home Bases), the first floor hallway (by the MS 100 rooms) and the Mac Gym.

maintenance staff would appreciate you following this request.
Event Supervisor Information
One of the goals of our invitational is to share teaching materials. We accomplish this by providing all event scoring sheets, corrected tests, blank tests, and answer keys to each school participating in the event. As an event supervisor, we ask that you bring:
Materials for exams, inlcuding enough exams and answer sheets for group
A blank copies of the exam and scoring key for each school
We will have access to copiers for those event supervisors who require these services.
This year, in order to help us achieve our school's desire to stay as environmentally sustainable as possible, this year we asking you to send the blank copies of your exams and the answer key in a digital format so that we can distribute electronically. If you have a written exam, we have the capability of converting the exam into a digital format which can be shared. For events with visuals (objects, exhibits, etc) such as Write It / It Ornithology, and Fossils, we encourage event supervisors to provide pictures of the various lab stations that students will need to view. If you need help in taking the pictures, please let us know.
At the conclusion of the Invitational, we will share the tests and materials somewhere off of the Illinois Science Olympiad web site to save copying costs and maybe save the environment. This way, you can actually include pictures, etc. to help support the teaching for events such as Write It/Do It, etc. You will still need to bring the correct number of tests for the invitational.
We will still provide your student's tests at the end of the awards ceremony. This will make your packet less bulky.
Supplies
Please let us know if you have any special room requests or equipment requests for the events you will be supervising. At this point, we are assuming that there are no other requests than those which have currently been shared.
Again this year, we will be splitting the awards into two groups, an A and an AA division. The top three places awarded for each division. The split that we have determined is in the table below. If you have questions or issues, please email Lee Block (

) or Vinnie Vrotny (

). In creating the split, we attempted to put experienced teams in the AA division, and the B teams and newer programs in the A division. The competition at this invitational is at a very high level and we are wanting to encourage as many students as we can by recognizing their achievement for the day.
We are assuming that for schools with two teams, that you are designating what you percieve to be your strongest team as the A team. This way, we can try to keep a competitive balance for those participating. We also do recognize that sometimes a school's B team will outperform a school's A team in some instances.
There will not be team awards. The focus on the invitational is on students learning, not on teams succeeding.
