A/AA divisioning occurs to give more students meaningful medals.  A/AA designation does not determine national bid status.  The team with the lowest total score will attend the National Tournament.

The A/AA committee will use the following criteria to divide teams into A/AA:

1. The teams qualifying for state and ranking within the top half of state teams the previous year will automatically be placed in division AA.
2. Other state qualifying teams will be separated into A/AA by using this year's placement within their regional. If their regional placement is above any of the teams within Criteria #1, they will also be placed in division AA.
3. Any team ranking below a criteria 1 team will also be considered for AA.  This will be dependent on number of regional qualifiers and percentage in A/AA.
