How do I start a team?

Where can I get information on running a team, practice tests, etc?

Both Illinois Science Olympiad and National Science Olympiad have lots of resources available to help you.  The National Science Olympiad website contains an abundance of FAQ's, event help, etc.  We try not to duplicate efforts from what the NSO does.  Here are some resources to get you started.

Can 5th graders compete in B Division tournaments?

Yes

When will we know what time our team competes for the Building Events?

Building Events are considered Self Schedule events.  The event runs for a long period of time, but your team will only compete in a short timeslot within that long period of time.  Your specific timeslot is determined by self scheduling.  Some time before the tournament, your tournament director will contact all coaches with information regarding how to self schedule and when it begins.  During self schedule, you log into the Self Schedule website and pick your timeslot.  Make certain that you have lots of options for times since you may not receive your first choice.

For events that allow notes to be brought in, can they be typed?

Unless it specifically states in the rules that notes have to be handwritten, they may be typed.

Website Accounts

Do I have an account for the ISO website?  How do I get one?  What about the account I use for Self Scheduling?

The only people that currently have ISO or will be granted website accounts are:

• ISO Directors
• ISO Board Members
  
• Great Lakes Coaches' Clinic attendees

At this time, no other accounts will be created.  ISO is considering allowing future accounts for coaches, parents, and students.

Accounts used for the self schedule website DO NOT work on the main ISO website.

Coaches' Clinic Handouts

How do I download the handouts and presentations from the Coaches' Clinic.

Only people that attended the Coaches' Clinic have been granted access to download the handouts and presentations.  The handouts are available on the Coaches' Clinic page (please log in to view the available downloads).
